About the Department

The Department of Printing Technology was established in the academic year 1996–1997 under the World Bank Project Scheme and has emerged as one of the premier centres for printing education in the country. The department functions in a separate, purpose-built building with a built-up area of approximately 10,000 sq. ft., equipped with modern laboratories and classrooms. The total value of machinery and laboratory facilities exceeds ₹2 Crores, with additional infrastructure developed at a cost of ₹40 Lakhs. The department also provides ramp facilities for Persons with Disabilities, ensuring inclusive education.

Over the years, more than 20 batches of students have successfully graduated, achieving excellent academic results and 100% placement consistently. The department has produced State First Rank holders many times in Board Examinations, demonstrating academic excellence and state-level dominance. All students secure employment either through campus recruitment or direct placement, both in India and abroad.

The department is supported by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty, comprising engineering graduates in Printing Technology with rich industrial exposure. The Principal Dr. M. Nandakumar holds a Doctorate in Printing Engineering and Technology. Faculty members have authored printing textbooks and guides, published and presented technical papers at national and international conferences, and actively contributed to syllabus design and curriculum development (R2023 Scheme) for Diploma programmes in Printing, Paper, and Packaging Technology.

Infrastructure & Laboratories

The department houses advanced laboratories including DTP, Press Work, Binding, Print Quality Control, and Packaging Laboratories. Facilities include offset, flexographic, and post-press machines, along with AICTE-funded MODROBS laboratories.

Modern testing equipment such as GSM tester, Bursting strength tester, Cobb tester, Ink rub tester, and other packaging testing instruments are available in the department.

A well-stocked department library supports learning with books, journals, CDs, DVDs, samples, and technical literature from leading global printing organizations.
